Higher Years - Years 10 & 11

By Years 10 and 11, the developmental needs of learners have moved on from the IPC through the IMYC to a different realm entirely. The learners are increasingly mature, fast approaching adulthood and will be surveying the landscape of universities and careers on the horizon.

ISK thoughtfully researched and considered how best to equip these learners and decided that Years 10 and 11 would best be served through rigorous learning towards the International General Examinations of Education (IGCSEs). These are subject based qualification which are hard currency throughout the world. IGCSEs are the internationally minded version of the GCSE and O-levels which are sat in countries such as England, Singapore and India. Completion of 5 IGCSEs is considered equivalent to a US high school diploma.  The IGCSE is increasingly being taken up by schools around the world. Certificates are awarded following successful learning and examinations through Cambridge examination board who inspected our school in September 2018.

We are a registered school of Cambridge Assessment International Education, part of the University of Cambridge. Through Cambridge International’s programme we prepare students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. The Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success. We shape its curriculum around how our students learn – with a wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer them. The Cambridge Pathway helps students discover new abilities and a wider world, and gives them the skills they need for life, so they can achieve at school, university and work.

For successful completion, students must be able to demonstrate a significant amount of knowledge, skill and understanding in each subject area which will serve as a firm foundation to learning at diploma and undergraduate level. We believe that by using the enquiring research and recording strategies embedded through the IMYC students will be able to take increasing ownership and responsibility of their learning and the demands required to gain these qualifications.

“I like the way that self-learning is a big part of the teaching at here”
Esteban, Year 11

“It’s enjoyable to be working on a 2 year time-frame rather than the usual annual approach to school”
Hayon Lee, Year 10

Currently, students in the Higher Years at ISK pursue up to 9 IGCSEs in the following subjects:
Mathematics
Co-ordinated Sciences (a combination of Biology, Chemistry and Physics worth 2 x IGCSEs)
English First Language
English as a Second Language

English Literature
Geography
History
Physical Education
