IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum)

Learning within the Early Years department is explorative, playful and hands on. During the day the students experience a range of learning approaches: teacher led learning, play based learning activities and free play in the Learning Centers. The Learning Centers around the room are set up to support a host of different learning across the curriculum, some examples are; maths centers, writing centers, reading centers, arts, fine motor skill and construction based. There are four core Learning Strands with the IEYC curriculum. As the children explore their Learning Centers, they are also developing the four areas of independence and interdependence skills, communication skills, enquiring skills, and how to live a healthy and safe life style.
Learning is student-centered, so the length of each unit depends on each classes unique learning needs. Each unit begins with an 'Entry Point' and finishes with an 'Exit Point.' Four to five units will completed within the school year. They have each been chosen to ensure that all of the Early Years Learning Strands are explored over the course of the year.

The Big Picture
We learn and play together, supporting one another as we explore and experience new things every day. We have lots in common, but there are also lots of things about ourselves that make us special. Together, we are going to be learning about ourselves and each other and celebrating what we have learned with our families.

The Big PictureSuperheroes to the rescue! Superheroes are all around us, using their special super powers to help others in need. We’re going to become heroes too, by making our own costumes and imagining the amazing and incredible powers we will use to help ourselves and other people around us. Lots of exciting new adventures await us as we explore and learn about the world of Superheroes!

The Big Picture
Look out of the window. What is the weather doing today? Will it be the same tomorrow or the day after that? Weather can change all the time. It can be raining, snowing, windy or sunny. There are lots of different types of weather and each one can make a big difference to what we can do, what we wear and even how we feel. Weather happens everywhere in the world and it’s what makes where we live special. As we become weather watchers and learn more about the weather, we will discover there’s lots of fun to be had, whatever the weather!

The Big PictureWe share our space with thousands and thousands of little visitors – minibeasts that live in the soil, under stones, amongst the plants and grass, in the trees and even in our homes. Minibeasts come in lots of different shapes and sizes, from tiny ants and long wriggly worms to beautiful butterflies with brightly coloured wings. We are going to be exploring minibeasts
in our local area and finding out more about what they look like, how they live and how they move about. And who knows – if the minibeasts like us, perhaps they’ll invite us to a special party!
